A beacon of faith and community, Oakton Methodist Church has stood on this corner since 1898. Originally known as Oakton Methodist Episcopal Church, its story is intertwined with the very history of Oakton itself. The church’s beginnings were not without trials. A storm ravaged the structure during construction, blowing down its walls. Undeterred, the congregation persevered and dedicated the sanctuary in October 1898. Oakton Methodist Church became a spiritual cornerstone for the growing community. The church experienced significant growth in the 1940s. This led to the construction of the first education building between 1947 and 1953. The church continued to expand, acquiring land behind the original plot. Through two building drives, funds were raised to build a new sanctuary. This new sanctuary held its first services in July 1956. Remarkably, the original 1898 sanctuary still stands beside it. Today, Oakton Methodist Church continues to serve its community. It offers both online and in-person worship services at 10 am on Sunday mornings. The church’s vision is “to be a vital and dynamic church for today and the future; inspired by worship to learn, serve, and offer the hope of Jesus to our community.” The church also houses Oakton Christian Preschool (OCP). OCP has been operating for over 30 years, providing a play-based preschool program for children aged 2 1/2 through Pre-K. Oakton Methodist Church is more than just a place of worship. It’s a testament to the enduring spirit of a community, a place where history and faith intertwine. It’s “the friendly church on the corner,” a landmark that has witnessed generations of Oakton families celebrate life’s milestones within its walls. The church’s sign out front, with its rotating messages of love and good news, is a cheerful beacon for all who pass by.
