Drawn to Quatinga for its local charm? You are in for a treat. Quatinga is a district of Mogi das Cruzes in Sāo Paulo. It integrates into the Metropolitan Region of Sāo Paulo.
Let’s explore Quatinga’s story. The district was officially created on July 2nd 1997. It happened through Ordinary Law number 4.631. Quatinga’s territory was carved out from the district of Taiaçupeba.
In 2010 the total population was 3672 inhabitants. This is according to the IBGE Census. The territorial area spans 82.921 square kilometers.
Quatinga is about 35 kilometers from Mogi das Cruzes’ center. It can be reached via the Mogi-Taiaçupeba highway SP-102. You can also reach it via Estrada das Varinhas SP-39 and Paranapiacaba by the SP-122.
Over the years Quatinga has seen expansion. This includes infrastructure, healthcare and education.
Water supply is managed by SABESP. This is the Basic Sanitation Company of the State of Sāo Paulo. EDP Sāo Paulo provides the electric energy. This company was formerly known as Bandeirante Energia.
The area was served by the Telephone Company of Borda do Campo CTBC. This company operated the rural telephone exchange. It was inaugurated in 1975 in the Pindorama neighborhood. In 1998 Telefónica bought CTBC. In 2012 Telefónica adopted the Vivo brand.
Quatinga attracts tourists. They seek local attractions. The Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Piedade is a highlight. It was built in 1950. Vila de Taquarussu is another point of interest. Don’t miss Pedra Grande. It is a granite rock 100 meters high. It is set in the Serra do Mar. From there you can see the coast.
The Clicoturística Route crosses Quatinga. This route links Taiaçupeba to Paranapiacaba.
Pedra Grande is near the Fontágua Spring. It stands approximately 100 meters high. The entire coastline can be seen from its top. Rapel is practiced here. Every July a Japanese ceremony takes place. They throw Moti rice cakes from the top of the stone.
Vila de Taquarussu is on private property. It’s on the Taquarussu Farm. But the area remains open. Italian workers established the village. They came during World War II. They worked for the mining company Fanti Belgioimini Ltda. The company explored coal. Here you can see the Igreja de Santa Luzia. There is also a garden with a bandstand. Other curiosities include old trucks. Admire the beautiful lake and a trail to Paranapiacaba.
Santa Rosa is in the district of Quatinga. It is 23 km inside the Serra do Mar. Hills and greenery frame it. The subsoil is rich in white quartz crystals.
