Comunidade Nossa Senhora das Graças

“Has anyone ever felt a miracle unfolding before their very eyes?” I ask, standing before the Comunidade Nossa Senhora das Graças. This unassuming church holds a story of faith, perseverance, and divine intervention. Comunidade Nossa Senhora das Graças wasn’t always the brick-and-mortar structure you see today. Its humble beginnings trace back to 2016, in the home of Rita Ferreira and Antônio Estevão in Jardim Santo Antô. Picture this: Mass celebrated by Fathers Luiz Moraes and Gilberto Silva every third Sunday, the faithful gathering in a different location each month. The community blossomed, their faith deepening with every shared prayer. Father Luiz, along with Antônio Monica, embarked on a quest, searching for a plot of land, a foundation for their future church. In July 2016, Bishop Luiz Antônio Guedes visited the parish, celebrating Mass with the growing community. They found a temporary haven, Ofélia’s spacious home, a place where all could feel welcome. Divine providence was at work. Through fervent prayers and the intercession of Our Lady of Graces, a permanent location was found. Nilde Monica’s home became the sanctuary, hosting services until their own chapel could be built. Every November, the community honors its patron saint with a vibrant celebration, a testament to their devotion to Jesus Christ and Our Lady of Graces. A tradition was born: the women of the community baking a cake, its ingredients lovingly donated by the faithful, shared and enjoyed after Mass. The cornerstone was laid on November 25, 2018, by Father Luiz Moraes, marking the start of construction. The community’s spirit shone brightly, actively participating in Christmas novenas, Lenten gatherings, and Marian devotions. On January 5, 2021, a beacon of hope illuminated the night sky above the Comunidade Nossa Senhora das Graças. The illuminated cross, a symbol of faith, a testament to salvation. Finally, on February 24, 2019, the chapel was inaugurated. A day of joyous celebration, filled with prayer, communion, and praise. Comunidade Nossa Senhora das Graças stands as a testament to the power of faith, the dedication of its community, and the blessings of Our Lady of Graces.
