Ready to discover a place where faith meets action? That’s Crossroads Baptist Church. It stands as a beacon in the National Capital Area.
Crossroads Baptist Church’s story began on September 6, 1981. Eighty-one people gathered at the Howard Inn. They formed the Northwest Baptist Temple. Pastor Lou Baldwin led this new venture. Fairfax Baptist Temple commissioned them.
The church first met in a banquet room of the Howard Inn in NW Washington. The congregation searched for a permanent home. After about eighteen months, they moved across the Potomac to Northern Virginia.
In May 1983, the church became Crossroads Baptist Church. Services were held in a storefront at 5848 Columbia Pike. This was in Bailey’s Crossroads, Virginia. Soon, they bought a two-story building nearby. In September 1983, they moved to 3530 Moncure Avenue.
By 1987, growth was evident. Sunday School and worship attendance increased. They remodeled the second level. Partitions created more classroom space. Two full-time staff members joined the team that year.
More space became a pressing need. In August 1990, Crossroads purchased land at 5811 Hoffmans Lane. The site was 500 yards from the Moncure facility. A 20000 square-foot building was built. It included an 800-seat auditorium. Ministry space was included. The church occupied it in November 1993. Three more staff members were added.
Crossroads became a lighthouse. Outreach ministries include Visitation, Bus, Addictions, Jail and Homeless. Ministries also serve Deaf, Single Adults, Single Parents, and youth. They support nearly two hundred missionaries and projects. This spans the globe.
The Child Development Center began in August 1995. It is a full-service Christian daycare. It can care for eighty children. Crossroads Christian Academy also began. It provides Christian education.
In 2013, a new Child Development Center opened. It is located across from the main church building. This state-of-the-art facility has space for 150 children. It offers nearly 10000 square-feet for education and offices.
Annual events enhance community. These include Couples and Singles Retreats. The Crossroads Ladies Conference. The Crossroads Youth Conference. Also, Harvest Day and the Faith-Promise Missions Conference. Christmas at Crossroads is a large dramatic event.
The Conference on Evangelizing Black America is a Crossroads ministry. It raises awareness for church planting in Black communities. Each summer, Crossroads hosts the COEBA National Gathering. Twenty-eight new churches have been birthed from Crossroads through the COEBA effort.
Services at Crossroads are Christ-centered. Visitors describe the church as warm. The Crossroads Choir ministers in services. They have encouraged many. They have professional recordings.
On September 11, 2011, Dr. Lou Baldwin’s son, Kenny, became the church’s second Senior Pastor.
Crossroads Bus Ministry reaches local neighborhoods. It focuses on children. The goal is to reach families. The Homeless Ministry brings hope to the CCNV Shelter. The Prison Ministry serves at the Alexandria Detention Center.
Crossroads supports over 150 missionary families. This is done through faith-promise commitments.
