Fancy a trip back in time? We are now in Nässet in Lidingö.
Nässet is a part of northern Lidingö. The area is bordered by Sticklinge and Grönsta to the north. It borders Bo to the east. To the south, it is bordered by Hersby and to the west by Islinge. In the southeast, the district extends all the way down to Kyrkviken.
The area is named after a small farm. The farm no longer exists. It belonged to Hersby farm and was located near the innermost part of Kyrkviken. Until the late 1800s, the area around Nynäs farm was Lidingö’s sockencentrum. Here, the country roads met. These roads connected several of the larger Lidingö farms with Lidingö Church.
On the north side of Stockholmsvägen was the sockenstuga. Nässet’s tavern from the 1700s was also here. Don’t confuse it with the current Nässet’s tavern in Nässet’s center. From 1845, the island’s first school, Klockargården, was located here. In 1879, the trading post in Villa Nynäs was added. It also housed Lidingö’s first telephone exchange. South of Stockholmsvägen, opposite Nässet’s mill, lay Kvarnskolan. It was built in 1875 and also housed a poorhouse. The area south of Stockholmsvägen is part of the Hersby district.
The current city plan was established in 1965. Lidingö’s city architect Bengt Holmstrand created it. The plan is characterized by Källängsvägen. It stretches through the area in an S-shape. The district’s apartment buildings were built in the 1960s. They sit on a wooded plateau north of the current Norra Kungsvägen.
Sture Frölén and Gösta Wikforss designed the houses. Gösta Edberg and Ernst Grönwall also contributed. The relatively small Nässet center is called “torget” by locals. Here you can find a grocery store and a tobacco shop. Nässet’s Krog restaurant is here, as well as a hair salon and a sushi restaurant. Stig Blomberg’s fountain sculpture “Vågspel” adorns the square. It is made of bronze and was erected in 1965.
Källängen’s school and Vittra Lidingö are located in Nässet. Nearby, there is an outdoor gym and a playground with a grill. You can also find an obstacle course and a zip line. There are also swimming areas.
Lidingöspåret passes through the forest around Nässet. Lidingö Golf Club is within walking distance.
Lidingövallen is located by Kyrkviken. Construction began in the mid-1930s. Nässet has bus connections to Ropsten and Lidingö Centrum. In Nässet stands Nässet’s water tower. It is a mushroom-shaped water tower built around 1970. Nässet’s water tower is one of Lidingö’s three water towers. The other two are Käppala water tower built in 1963 and Hersby water tower built in 1950.
Outdoor scenes for seasons one and two of the TV series Kvarteret Skatan were filmed in Nässet. The series Sam Tar Över has also been filmed here. The band Nässet is named after Nässet. Nässet, a place with a story to tell at every turn.
