Nestled in Konstancin-Jeziorna, a town boasting many architectural gems, stands Willa Quo Vadis. Willa Quo Vadis graces Sobieskiego Street at number 9. Its story begins before 1910, when Władysław Colonna-Czosnowski designed and built it for himself. Initially known as “Pod Jeleniem” (Under the Stag), it served as a guesthouse. Willa Quo Vadis changed hands in 1914, becoming the property of Leontyna Rudzka. This notable Warsaw educator also owned two other Konstancin villas: “Leonówka” and “Biała” (White). Another chapter in the Willa Quo Vadis story unfolded in 1931. Wiktoria z Bylińskich Koźmińska, wife of Karol Koźmiński, became its new owner. Karol, known as Maciej Gruszczyński, was a respected journalist, illustrator, and children’s historical author. After 1945, part of Willa Quo Vadis came under state ownership. It now rests in private hands. The villa’s most striking feature is its three-story wooden verandas facing the street. These intricate verandas, while impressive, adorn only one side of the building. The other walls have fewer embellishments, creating a stark contrast. This asymmetry highlights Willa Quo Vadis’ unique architectural style. Its eclectic design, blending elements of classicism, is further enhanced by hipped roofs and ornate balustrades. Window surrounds, cornices, and brackets add to its decorative charm. Willa Quo Vadis stands as a testament to its rich past and enduring beauty.
