Have you ever felt the wind whip through your hair as you stand atop a hill overlooking a sprawling metropolis? Welcome to Fa Peng Hill. Fa Peng Hill in Hong Kong offers breathtaking panoramic views. It’s named after a large rock shaped like a flower flask. Many find this a stretch of the imagination but the view is undeniably stunning. The hike to Fa Peng Hill’s peak takes about two and a half hours. It’s a moderate difficulty hike with a challenging climb towards the end. The trail begins near the Lantau Link Toll Plaza. You can easily access it by bus from the airport.
The initial part of the trail is relatively flat. This provides a good warm-up before the steeper ascent. As you walk you’ll pass under Kap Shui Mun Bridge. This is one of the longest bridges in the world. Keep following the trail and you’ll reach Tso Wan Pier. This small beach offers a picturesque view of Hong Kong’s business districts. Continue along the beach until you find the signs pointing to Fa Peng Hill. The trail then becomes steeper. You’ll start climbing loose rocks.
Finally you reach the summit. The flower flask rock itself might be a bit underwhelming. But the view is anything but. You can see Lantau Island the New Territories Kowloon and Hong Kong Island. You also get a clear view of three busy bridges Kap Shui Mun Tsing Ma and Ting Kau. The skyscrapers are visible in the distance. Even Disneyland is in sight. It’s a fantastic portrayal of Hong Kong’s development in a single glance.
From the peak you can choose your descent route. One path leads towards Disneyland and Tung Chung. The other takes you back to where you started. The downhill section is steep with many stairs. Be glad you didn’t have to climb those. Once you are back down you will see the Lantau highway again. From here you can take a bus to explore more of Lantau Island or head back to the city. Fa Peng Hill is a rewarding hike offering stunning views and a unique perspective on Hong Kong. Remember to wear comfortable footwear and bring plenty of water. Enjoy the breathtaking view.
