From a mission to a beacon of faith. This is the story of Ravensworth Baptist Church in Annandale. Ravensworth Baptist Church started its journey in 1957. It began as a mission of Annandale Baptist Church. The congregation officially became a church on March 15, 1959. Initially, the congregation held services at North Springfield Elementary School. Imagine the children’s laughter echoing where hymns would soon rise. In 1962, Ravensworth Baptist Church took a big step. They completed a new social center. This building, designed by Allen J. Dickey, cost $164,000. It marked the first phase of a larger building project. The congregation finally had a dedicated space for worship. This social center became their spiritual home. Over the years, Ravensworth Baptist Church saw various pastors leading the flock. Rev. Dr. Elmer S. West served from 1963 to 1966. Rev. James E. Lamkin became senior pastor in 1992. Howard W. Roberts took the helm in 1998. Rev. Steve Hyde arrived in 2001. Ravensworth Baptist Church didn’t shy away from change. In 2000, it left the Southern Baptist Convention. In 2006, it joined the Association of Welcoming and Affirming Baptists. This decision reflected its commitment to inclusivity. Ravensworth Baptist Church stands as a testament to its community’s evolving faith. It is a place where history intertwines with the present, where every brick tells a story of dedication, growth, and the enduring power of belief.
