Mount Olive United Methodist Church began its journey in 1906. A group of Black men. Frustrated by segregation they purchased land. Their dream a dedicated worship space free from the limitations of racial prejudice. They built a small one-room building. A pulpit was added. For many years they worshipped there at 811 Dares Beach Road.

In 1977 under the leadership of Reverend Andrew Johnson a much improved sanctuary was constructed. This wasn’t merely bricks and mortar. It represented hope. It signified progress. It symbolized the unwavering spirit of a congregation determined to build a better future.

The church continued to grow. By 1993 the congregation outgrew its space. They envisioned a facility that could accommodate a wider array of programs and activities. A new building project began. It was ambitious. It demanded faith and dedication.

August 2005 brought the culmination of their efforts. A new Mount Olive United Methodist Church opened at 10 Fairground Road. This wasn’t just a building. It housed a Fellowship Hall. It became a welcoming space for non-profit community groups. It remains a place of worship.
