Did you know a luxurious lodge awaits in the heart of Remutaka Forest Park? Turere Lodge isn’t your typical backcountry hut. It offers a “5-star” comfort tramping experience. Turere Lodge officially opened in 2011. It boasts 32 bunks spread across four rooms: Kea, Kiwi, Kokopu, and Kapowai. Each room at Turere Lodge offers sole occupancy. Imagine a group of friends or family enjoying the spacious communal kitchen and living area. They gather around the warmth of the wood burner after a day of exploring the park’s trails. The lodge is equipped with gas cooking, pots, pans, crockery, and cooking utensils. Turere Lodge even has electric lights in the kitchen. Cold tap water is available, and containment toilets are provided for convenience. Remember to bring your sleeping bag, personal equipment, candles or a headlamp, matches, and toilet paper. Booking Turere Lodge in advance is essential, especially during peak season (December 26th to February 8th). The lodge is a popular destination for school groups, sports teams, clubs, and families. The walk to Turere Lodge is approximately 2.5 hours from the Catchpool Valley car park. The track doesn’t require any river crossings, making it accessible to a wider range of trampers. The lodge’s location atop a sheltered outcrop provides breathtaking views of the Orongorongo River. Surrounded by lush native forest, Turere Lodge offers a tranquil escape into nature. Evenings at the lodge might include the magical sound of kiwi calling nearby. Turere Lodge is the perfect place to reconnect with nature and create lasting memories.
