Elevated above Vaihingen City Park stands the Goldene Emilie. It’s a sculpture that captures the spirit of this place. The Goldene Emilie isn’t just a static piece of art. It’s a dynamic, wind-responsive creation. Its brass wings, shaped like a maple seed, spin freely on a stainless steel column. This allows it to act as a watchful guardian, facing any direction the wind takes it. The Goldene Emilie, also known as the “Großer Engel” (Large Angel), symbolizes the inviolability of the park. It was installed in March 2013. The artist, Harald Marquardt, was born in 1949 in Sindelfingen. He studied at the Kunst- und Werkschule and the Fachhochschule für Gestaltung in Pforzheim. Now he lives and works in Stuttgart-Vaihingen. The Goldene Emilie is dedicated to Emilie Vollmoeller. She was the wife of textile manufacturer Robert Vollmoeller. The Vollmoeller family generously donated this beautiful park to Vaihingen. So next time you’re in Vaihingen City Park, take a moment to appreciate the Goldene Emilie. It’s a testament to the enduring legacy of generosity and the artistic spirit that thrives in this community.
