Established in 1881 as a veterinary school, Nippon Veterinary and Life Science University (NVLU) has a rich history. Here in Musashino, Tokyo, NVLU stands as a testament to Japan’s dedication to animal care and life sciences. NVLU wasn’t always a university. It began its life humbly, evolving from a simple school in Tokyo to the renowned institution it is today. In 1949, NVLU officially became a university. A significant turning point came in 1952. NVLU merged with Nippon Medical School. This partnership, while preserving their separate identities, strengthened both institutions. Think of it, two powerful forces in medicine and veterinary science working together, right here at NVLU. The university is divided into two main schools. One focuses on veterinary medicine. The other specializes in veterinary nursing and technology. There’s also a faculty dedicated to applied life sciences, further expanding NVLU’s reach. NVLU boasts a modern teaching hospital, built in 2003. Every year, approximately 10,000 cats and dogs are treated within its walls. Imagine the countless lives touched by the skilled veterinarians trained at NVLU. But NVLU isn’t confined to the city. It extends its research to a six-hectare farm near Mount Fuji. Cattle, sheep, horses, and goats roam these fields, contributing to valuable studies. The farm even offers accommodations for students conducting overnight research. NVLU’s commitment to education goes beyond traditional classrooms. They have a Wildlife Museum dedicated to showcasing their research and public education. Students can even gain experience in curating and practical museum work. Nippon Veterinary and Life Science University is more than just a university. It’s a hub of innovation, care, and a deep understanding of the bond between humans and animals.
