The problem of insufficient space for the growing congregation of the Church of St. Francis of Assisi in Chodov, spurred the idea of an expansive center for all denominations. The vision was ambitious, a space for shared worship and a sense of unity among the diverse communities in the locality. However, the journey to realization faced numerous hurdles. The land acquisition was a tangled affair, hampered by property claims and financial anxieties. Slowly, the desire for an ecumenical center waned as each denomination sought to build its own space. Finally, the Archdiocese purchased the land in the Central Park to build the Komunitn\u00ed centrum Matky Terezy. Though the vision of an ecumenical center was abandoned, the Archdiocese remained committed to building a place of communion and purpose. The center’s construction lasted a year and a half. It was an endeavor of combined efforts: the Archdiocese of Prague poured in the majority of funding, while sponsors, the Chodov parish, and donations from Archbishop Miloslav Vlk, made significant contributions. Local residents raised concerns about the construction, worrying about the impact on the green space. However, the Church’s promise of a place of unity and community support, eventually won over the apprehensive hearts. Today, the Komunitn\u00ed centrum Matky Terezy stands as a landmark of faith, community, and purpose in this vibrant city.
