Established in 2015, the Bunka Suginami Canadian International School works with Bunka Gakuen University Suginami Junior and Senior High School. They provide the BC curriculum for students in the Double-Diploma Program.

The Bunka Gakuen educational group has a rich history. In 1919, the Namiki Women’s and Children’s Dressmaking School was established. In 1922, the Bunka Sewing School opened. Isaburo Namiki created the Bunka-style pattern cutting method.

In 1923, the school became Bunka Sewing School for Women. It was recognized as Japan’s first school of Western-style sewing. June 23 became the anniversary of the school’s founding. In 1927, the school moved to its current location in Yoyogi, Tokyo.

In 1936, Bunka Sewing School for Women became Bunka Fashion College. After World War II, the school held its opening ceremony in 1946. In 1950, Bunka Women’s Junior College opened.

In 1964, Bunka Women’s University opened. The university changed its name to Bunka Gakuen University in 2011. The Suginami Senior High School affiliated with Bunka Women’s University opened in 1974. The Suginami Junior High School opened in 1986.
