Did you know The Forest High School wasn’t always called that? Originally named Frenchs Forest High School it opened its doors in 1961. Located on Frenchs Forest Road this impressive institution welcomed 318 students. Fourteen teachers guided those eager young minds under the principalship of Edward George Bell. He was previously headmaster at Fairfield Boys High School. The Forest High School’s motto Spectemur Agendo Let Us Be Judged By Our Actions was chosen by its first students and staff. The school crest was the brainchild of its art teacher a true testament to collaborative beginnings.
The Forest High School quickly grew. By 1963 three main buildings stood proudly. Enrolment soared to 963 students. That year also saw the completion of the Assembly Hall. The first edition of the school magazine Yarrabee was published a cherished record of early school life. The official opening was in 1964. Distinguished guests including the Governor of New South Wales attended. This marked a pivotal moment in The Forest High School’s history.
The 1960s witnessed the blossoming of The Forest High School’s musical program. The orchestra band and choir were formed. Sporting success followed. The school won athletic and swimming trophies. The school continued to expand. D Block and the gymnasium opened in 1969. The library was the final addition completed in 1976. The Forest High School’s legacy was cemented.
