Her novel In the Shade of a Blue Rose gained popularity years later. She started writing when she was just fourteen. Three of her dramas premiered in Prague in 1896 before she ever stepped on stage as a singer.

Her success was phenomenal. Over 700 appearances at the Berlin Hofoper alone. She conquered Europe and America. Yet despite her international acclaim she always remained deeply patriotic. Her strong Czech identity resulted in persecution during WWI. Her passport was confiscated. She was confined to her estate at Straž nad Nežárkou.

Even this relatively unknown viewpoint holds a piece of her story. It’s a place where you can pause reflect on her life her legacy. It is a silent tribute to a woman whose extraordinary talent and unwavering spirit continue to inspire. Ema’s name is on the Czech 2000-crown banknote.
