“Dare to play today, beyond the glow of the phone’s screen?” That’s the theme that echoes within the Lidická galerie next year.

Lidická galerie stands as a testament to art’s power. It honors the village of Lidice. This village was tragically destroyed by German Nazis.

The Lidická galerie serves as a space for exhibitions. It also hosts cultural events. The building itself has an interesting past. It was designed by architect František Marek. Construction began in 1957. It originally served as the village’s cultural center. After 1989, it fell into private hands. It no longer served its original purpose. The state bought the dilapidated building. It was rebuilt from 2002 to 2003. Now, it serves its current function.

The ground floor features a permanent exhibition. This is the Lidice Art Collection. Artists from around the world donated these pieces to Lidice. The first floor hosts short-term exhibitions regularly. You can also experience cultural programs there. Concerts and theater performances are often held.

Outside, a garden complements the gallery. Cultural events take place here. Sculptures from the Lidice Collection dot the landscape.

The Lidice Art Collection has a unique history. It officially began in the 1960s. Sir Barnett Stross was a British doctor. He was also a member of parliament. He established this solidarity collection. The collection consists entirely of gifts. These gifts came from artists around the world.

Prominent international artists contributed. Gerhard Richter, Mona Hatoum and Joseph Beuys are among them. Czech artists such as the Válová sisters and Eva Kmentová also donated.

One notable exhibit is “Ruskin Spear, Portrét Sira Barnetta Strosse”. Other exhibits include “Jitka Válová, Zátiší s lebkami” and “Eva Kmentová, Zrození”. “Gerhard Rühm, Hommage à Lidice” is another piece.

The International Children’s Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice takes place annually. It was established in 1967. It commemorates child victims from Lidice. It also remembers children who have died in wars. The Lidice gallery hosts the main exhibition each year. Children aged 4 to 16 can participate. People with disabilities can participate at any age.

The Lidická galerie isn’t just a gallery. It is a symbol of resilience. It is a reminder of art’s unifying power. It is a testament to human compassion. As you leave, consider the stories held within its walls. Think about the children who express themselves through art. Their voices echo. They promote peace. They inspire hope for a better world.
