St Francis Anglican Church stands as part of the Anglican Diocese of Trinidad and Tobago. This diocese comprises four regions. Three are in Trinidad and one in Tobago. Thirty parishes and one district form the diocese.

In 1891 Tobago joined the Diocese of Trinidad. The Bishop of Trinidad then gained jurisdiction over Venezuela congregations in 1895. Venezuela became a separate diocese in 1975. It separated from the Province of the West Indies in 1981.

St Francis Anglican Church is part of St Patrick’s Church, Mount Pleasant. This region also encompasses St Luke Church at Patience Hill. It includes St Nicholas Church in Lambeau and St Patrick’s Church.

The first Anglican presence in the country started in Tobago in 1763. Priests were appointed to establish the Anglican Church. This was done in compliance with royal instructions.

The Diocese of Trinidad and Tobago was set up in 1872. Before that, the area fell nominally under the Bishop of London. This situation was assumed to hold from 1660.

From 1824 to 1872, the Bishop of Barbados administered the area. The coat of arms includes the Alpha and Omega. It also features a version of the Shield of the Trinity. The College of Arms in London granted it in 1951.

The current bishop of Trinidad and Tobago is The Right Reverend Claude Berkley. He assumed responsibility on December 18, 2011. He was enthroned on January 14, 2012.
