A legacy built on hope. That’s Masibambane Secondary School. Standing proudly in Bloekombos near Kraaifontein it’s more than just bricks and mortar. It’s a testament to community spirit.

Masibambane Secondary School began in an abandoned work camp. In 1999 the Bloekombos community transformed this derelict space. They saw a need for secondary education. They built a school from the ground up. Literally.

Initially classrooms were in prefabricated buildings. A portal frame shed housed about 100 learners. Despite the humble beginnings education flourished. The school grew. More learners needed more space. The school became a hub of activity a testament to the community’s resilience.

In 2008 the Western Cape Education Department helped. They provided funding for new buildings. This included an administration block a library and more classrooms. The new buildings were designed thoughtfully. They created a central courtyard a gathering place for students and staff. The design mirrored the industrial past. It showcased the school’s evolution. The architects Design Studio Cape Town created a space of pride.

Masibambane Secondary School is a Quintile 1 school. This means it’s no-fee. The Department of Education provides funding. This supports operational costs and educational resources. In 2023 the school had 1558 learners and 53 educators. It demonstrates the value of public education. A beacon of opportunity in a growing area.

Today Masibambane Secondary School continues to thrive. It provides quality education to hundreds of students. It’s a place of learning and growth. More than that it’s a symbol of hope and perseverance. A place where dreams take flight. It’s a place built on the foundations of community belief in education and a vision for the future. A vision shared by students teachers and the entire Bloekombos community. This is Masibambane Secondary School. A school built by a community for a community.
