Two horizontal pendulums hang from the cave’s ceiling. They are among the world’s longest geodetic pendulums. These instruments help scientists study the movement of the Earth’s crust.
A guided tour of the Grotta Gigante is a journey through time. You’ll traverse approximately 850 meters of underground pathways. It takes about an hour to complete the tour. You’ll descend 500 steps to reach the lowest point. Then you’ll ascend the same number of steps to return to the surface.
