Ah, the echoes of history resonate right here. This is Kawasaki City Tachibana Elementary School. It stands as a testament to education’s enduring spirit.

Kawasaki City Tachibana Elementary School began as a humble ‘Nurturing Root School’ in 1873. This followed the promulgation of the Education System. The school transformed over the years. It moved to a new school building in 1877. The school was renamed Tachibana Village Ordinary Nurturing Root Elementary School in 1886.

Did you know that in 1909, the school faced overcrowding? To solve the issue, classes were held in Renjoji Temple. In 1914, Kawasaki City Tachibana Elementary School was officially recognized. It was known as Tachibana Village Ordinary Higher Elementary School. The school integrated with Nurturing Root Elementary School and Suehiro Elementary School.

In 1929, a unique reinforced concrete palace-style was built. It served as a Hōan-den hall. In 1937, Tachibana Village merged with Kawasaki City. The school’s name changed to Kanagawa Prefecture Kawasaki City Tachibana Ordinary Higher Elementary School.

During World War II in 1944, older students were mobilized for labor. After the war, in 1947, Kawasaki City Tachibana Elementary School started serving school lunches.

In 1953, the school established its school song. Katsutoshi Shoo penned the lyrics. Kozo Hirai composed the music. A block school building was completed in 1957.

Let us fast forward to 1964. Kawasaki City Tachibana Elementary School celebrated its 50th anniversary. In 1968, a pedestrian overpass was built.

In 1973, the school began broadcasting television programs internally. The local history compilation started in 1975. The local history reader ‘Tachibana’ was published in 1977.

In 1981, a mechanical security system was installed. Fast forward to 1991. Typhoon No. 18 caused flooding in the block school building.

In 2013, computers and tablets were introduced. These were for the children in the computer room. Kawasaki City Tachibana Elementary School updated its website in 2015. Outdoor broadcasting equipment was renovated in 2016.

In 2014, Kawasaki City Tachibana Elementary School celebrated its 100th anniversary. It was a grand event held in the school’s gymnasium. A slogan was created for the anniversary. “Thank you Tachibana Smile and happiness to the future”.

Today, Kawasaki City Tachibana Elementary School continues its mission. It provides education. It enriches the lives of its students. The school nurtures children to deepen their thinking.
