You are standing on the edge of Storängsudds naturreservat, a tranquil haven tucked away in Stockholm’s archipelago. The preserve is a haven for oak and linden groves, where wildflowers bloom in vibrant colors. In the spring, rare orchids, such as the elder-flowered orchid and the snake’s head fritillary, paint the meadow with their delicate beauty. The Storängsuddsleden trail, a loop trail, takes you on a winding journey through this land. Take a moment to pause at one of the many rocks along the shore and gaze out across the sparkling waters of Baggensfjärden. There is an Iron Age grave field in the eastern corner of the reserve. You can also find evidence of the history of war in the so-called “Russian ovens,” outdoor stone ovens made by the invaders of the 1700s.
