Once upon a time a small school house stood where All Saints Parish now welcomes all. All Saints Parish began as a mission church in 1897. It started in a little school house on Chevy Chase Circle. The church has been a warm and caring community. Families and singles young and old all find a home here.
All Saints is committed to spreading the good news of Jesus Christ. The good news is revealed in the Bible. It provides extended opportunities for Christian growth. Bible study enriches learning experiences. All Saints cares for those in need. Talents are shared for mutual enrichment. Members encourage support and inspire each other. They share and reinforce their faith. They trust in the love of God.
In 1901 ground broke for a new church. It was built to seat 250 at each service. The church was built of Rock Creek granite. The original church is incorporated into the All Saints complex today.
All Saints architecture is English Gothic Revival. The church contains outstanding examples of stained glass art. All Souls Parish is sometimes called the jewel box. The windows are a museum of the finest 20th-century American stained glass. Willet Heaton and Tiffany are represented. Rudy and others are too.
All Saints believes that when the church is doing missions the church is being the church. This is true in the community in the country and abroad. Going on a mission to one of the partner countries can be a life-changing opportunity. It is an opportunity to serve Christ.
All Saints Preschool is a ministry of All Saints Church. The earliest years of life have a powerful influence on children. The preschool believes this is the ideal time to make a difference. Children are provided space for discovery and exploration. The program is based on The Creative Curriculum. It focuses on social emotional development and physical skills. Cognitive language and literacy skills are developed.
All Saints Food Pantry is expanding its ministry. It feeds the needy in the community.
Music is an important part of the All Saints identity and worship. A strong spirit of joy and camaraderie pervades the musical fellowship. There is a love for great music. The choir produces glorious sounds. The sounds are offered to God each week.
All Saints has international relationships. They work with Uganda Christian University. It was the first private University in Uganda to be awarded a charter by the Government of Uganda.
The Women of All Saints Thrift Shop ministers to the community. They sell good used clothing and small household items. The shop gives away clothing to those in need. A priest refers those in need. Social service agencies and recognized charitable organizations do too. Proceeds go to All Saints Church and local charitable organizations.
Visiting Ministers call visit and send cards to parishioners of all ages. They provide meals and rides to church. Eucharist is taken to those who request it. Some Visiting Ministers take flowers soup or reading material. Others take nothing except their loving hearts and smiling faces.
Founded on inclusive words All Saints continues to define parish life today. All Souls began to take form in 1911. It provided Dr. James MacBride Sterrett with a vision. He fostered a neighborly spirit. He served the area as a pastor and friend. In May of 1913 The Diocesan Convention created All Souls Parish. Built as a memorial to the founder’s son the little church soon became a shrine for many memorials. As the neighborhood grew so did the parish. In 2015 an Accessibility Addition with an elevator was added. It makes the church truly accessible to all souls. All are welcome in this house of faith and service.
