Thirty-three years. That’s how long Apostle A Norris Smith has served as pastor of the New Covenant Baptist Church. This isn’t just any church. It’s a cornerstone of Southeast Washington DC a place where faith and community intertwine.

His journey to the pulpit was a gradual one. He started as a deacon usher and choir member at Mt Zion Baptist Church. Thanksgiving night 1978 marked a turning point. He felt the call to preach. His first sermon was delivered February 11 1979. He joined Galilee Baptist Church in 1980 under Reverend Dr Eugene Weathers. There he was ordained in 1984.
March 1 1985 brought him to New Covenant Baptist Church. He became its pastor a role he’s held with unwavering devotion. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Southern Baptist Church Bible Institute in 2002. That same year he was consecrated a bishop by Bishop Willie L Lewis Sr. In 2006 he established Refreshing Spring Ministries. This network now includes several churches across the region. His dedication expanded even further. He was consecrated an Apostle in 2012.
