Picture the iconic red neon sign. It leans jauntily above the Tip Top Lofts. This isn’t just any building. It’s a Toronto landmark. A testament to the city’s rich history.

The Tip Top Lofts weren’t always luxury condos. They started life in 1929. Originally the headquarters of Tip Top Tailors. This menswear retailer was founded by Polish-Jewish immigrant David Dunkelman. His son Benjamin later took the reins.

The Art Deco design by Bishop and Miller Architects is breathtaking. The building housed everything. Manufacturing warehousing retail and offices. It was a bustling hub of activity. Imagine the tailors stitching suits. The steady rhythm of their needles. The scent of fine fabrics filling the air.

In 1972 Toronto designated the building a heritage structure. It was a smart move. Years later in 2002 Dylex sold the property. Context Development transformed it into the Tip Top Lofts we see today. ArchitectsAlliance added six stories. The iconic sign stayed. It received a stylish tilt.

The conversion was completed in 2006. Now 256 lofts grace the eleven floors. These range in size from cozy to palatial. Penthouse units are bi-level. The original building’s character remains. High ceilings and open floor plans are a huge draw. They reflect the building’s industrial past.

The Tip Top Lofts are more than just a place to live. They’re a piece of Toronto history. A connection to the city’s vibrant past. The building’s location is another selling point. It sits on the waterfront near Ontario Place. The CNE and the Martin Goodman Trail are also nearby.

The Tip Top Lofts’ story isn’t just about bricks and mortar. It’s about the people who built the building. The families who made it thrive. And the visionaries who saved it from demolition. It’s a story of resilience and transformation. A reminder of Toronto’s enduring spirit. This building embodies the city’s dynamic past and exciting future. The Tip Top Lofts are more than just condos. They are a symbol of Toronto’s enduring legacy.
