Originally encompassing 31 hectares, it expanded in 2000. This protected area, nestled between the Heuchelhof district and the bustling A3, is a haven for biodiversity. Imagine orchids painting the meadows with vibrant hues. Picture the sun warming the dry slopes, home to over 360 plant species. More than 90 of these are on the Red List of threatened species, including the striking Military Orchid and the delicate Common Fringed Gentian. The Bromberg-Rosengarten also buzzes with a rich variety of hymenoptera, like wild bees. Ancient stone walls, known as Lesesteinriegel, offer shelter to lizards and other creatures. But the Bromberg-Rosengarten whispers tales of more than just natural wonders. The exposed blocks of shell limestone bear witness to its history as a quarry. The very stones that built Würzburg’s Alte Mainbrücke were hewn from these slopes. The ground beneath your feet holds the remnants of this past, making this area geologically unique. This former quarry has transformed into an ecological gem. It offers microhabitats and a breeding ground for diverse species. A nature trail meanders through the Bromberg-Rosengarten. Eight information panels share insights into the unique species that call this place home. The trail offers routes of varying lengths, all accessible, starting from several points like the Gethsemanekirche or the A3 rest area.
