Do you see this unassuming little chapel? It is a small, brick building. Its windows are modest. Inside, you will find a simple interior. This is the Kaplička blahoslaveného Odorika z Pordenone, dedicated to Blessed Odoric of Pordenone, which can actually be considered a very important place. Odoric was a Franciscan missionary, who travelled from Italy to China and Tibet. He arrived in Prague, too, in 1330, bringing back stories and knowledge about the East. He was quite a character, too. He was known for being brave and fearless. He was also a gifted storyteller. He wrote about his crazy adventures in the East, which is how we know so much about the world in the 14th century. There are even theories about this place. Some say Odoric visited here. While it may be difficult to prove, it’s still a lovely place for reflection. And just think, if the stories are true, you can almost feel Odoric’s spirit here in Prague. The Kaplička blahoslaveného Odorika z Pordenone represents a bridge between distant cultures and is a reminder of how curiosity and courage can take us to places we could never imagine.
