Amidst the vibrant tapestry of faith in Linthicum Heights, Maryland, stands the St. Mary and St. Athanasius Coptic Orthodox Church. A beacon of spirituality and community, the church’s story began not here, but in the bustling streets of Raritan, New Jersey. In 2006, a small group of faithful, guided by their vision and with the blessing of His Grace Bishop David, held their first meeting. This meeting set in motion a chain of events that would eventually lead to the establishment of St. Mary and St. Athanasius Coptic Orthodox Church. Their inaugural liturgy took place on May 13th, 2006, graced by the presence of Bishop David and Bishop Sherobime of Qina. The church’s mission is rooted in the teachings of Jesus Christ: worshiping, loving, and serving. St. Mary and St. Athanasius Coptic Orthodox Church strives to embody these principles, serving the community in the image of Christ, offering unconditional love and support to all. The journey of St. Mary and St. Athanasius Coptic Orthodox Church was not without its moves. From Raritan, the congregation relocated to Manville, New Jersey in 2009. A pivotal moment occurred in 2009 with the ordination of Father John Rizkalla, a testament to the growing needs of the church. The church’s current location in Linthicum Heights became a reality in 2015. A remarkable turn of events led them to a property already established as a church, a faster and more efficient path to finally having a permanent home. The purchase was finalized on June 5th, 2015, and services commenced immediately the next day. The very first Divine Liturgy in their new home was celebrated on June 7th, 2015, marking a new chapter in the story of St. Mary and St. Athanasius Coptic Orthodox Church. Today, St. Mary and St. Athanasius Coptic Orthodox Church stands as a testament to the unwavering faith and dedication of its community. It serves as a vibrant center for worship, spiritual growth, and community service, continuing to spread the message of love and service taught by Jesus Christ.
