Lost in time’s embrace stands Koleč. A small village nestled near Prague its history whispers secrets from centuries past.

Koleč is more than a simple village. It’s a living tapestry woven with threads of time. Its story begins around 1125-1140. A document mentions Koleč as property of the Vyšehrad Chapter. The name itself a twist of fate. Initially Choleč it morphed into Koleč. This suggests a connection to a person named Cholec or Cholek. His court or perhaps his influence shaped early Koleč.

The village grew. But its past remains a mystery. Records tell us little. We do know that Týnec a neighbouring part of Koleč appeared earlier in a forged 12th-century document. Mozolín the youngest part joined the story much later in the 18th century. Its name speaks volumes. Hard work in the coal mines likely gave Mozolín its identity.

The Ubelli family left an indelible mark. Italian nobles they acquired Koleč around 1701 or 1702. They built a castle. A Baroque masterpiece it stands as a testament to their legacy. The castle’s chapel dedicated to the Holy Trinity was later enlarged into a church. Sadly the castle fell into disrepair in the 1990s. It’s gradually being restored. A phoenix rising from the ashes of time.

Koleč thrives today. Its residents a blend of past and present. The village retains its charm. Its peace a sanctuary near bustling Prague. Koleč is a reminder that history lives not only in grand monuments but in humble villages. It’s a testament to the enduring spirit of a community. It’s a place where history and present intertwine seamlessly.

The railway line Prague-Slaný runs through Koleč. But only on weekends and summer holidays do trains actually use it. This adds to the charm of Koleč. A quiet pace of life. A connection to a slower time. This makes the small village a hidden gem. A quiet retreat from the rush of modern life. The legacy of the Ubellis lives on in the stones of Koleč.
