Blackford’s legacy extended beyond his sermons. In 1869 Rev George W Chamberlain took over. Along with his wife Mary Annesley they established the Colegio Mackenzie. This prestigious institution eventually evolved into the Instituto Presbiteriano Mackenzie and the Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie. This school stands today as a direct result of the Igreja Presbiteriana’s influence. The church’s impact spread far beyond its walls.
The Igreja Presbiteriana was also part of significant divisions. In 1903 the First Igreja Presbiteriana de Sao Paulo separated. It formed the Igreja Presbiteriana Independente do Brasil. This breakaway marked a turning point. It showcased the evolving nature of faith and its adaptation in Sao Paulo.
