“Why on earth is it called ‘Risk Church?'” someone once asked me. I smiled at the memory as we stood before the unassuming building. This is Risk Church. It might not look like much from the outside, but its story is anything but ordinary. Risk Church is a Pentecostal church, part of the Assemblies of God denomination. Its roots are deeply planted in the Stokes Valley community, but its vision stretches far beyond. Pastors Rob and Kaye Clayton lead the church with a simple philosophy: come as you are. They believe in a Christianity that is about engaging with the world, taking risks, and stepping out of comfort zones, just like the apostle Peter walking on water. And that’s where the church’s unusual name comes from. It’s a call to action, a reminder that faith requires us to embrace uncertainty and trust in something bigger than ourselves. Risk Church is more than just Sunday service. They have a vibrant community with various activities throughout the week, from youth groups to prayer meetings. And who knows?
