Lost in the serene countryside of Yuen Long District stands Shan Pui Village. This isn’t just any village. Shan Pui Village boasts a history stretching back centuries. Its story is woven into the fabric of Hong Kong’s past.

Founded by Lam Siu-yuen a member of the Lam Clan Shan Pui Village emerged around 200 years ago. He relocated from Tai Wai Tsuen bringing his family and traditions. The village grew nestled beside expansive fishing ponds a vital part of its early economy.

By 1911 Shan Pui Village had a population of 273. More than half were men. This census provides a fascinating glimpse into the village’s demographics during a pivotal period. The Lam Ancestral Hall a prominent structure stands as a testament to the village’s heritage. Built sometime in the 19th century it served not only as a family hall but also as a school and kindergarten over the years. This multi-purpose building highlights the ingenuity and adaptability of Shan Pui Village’s residents.

The village is part of the Tung Tau alliance a powerful network of seven villages. These villages shared resources and faced challenges together. The Yi Shing Temple in Wong Uk Tsuen serves as a central point for this alliance reflecting the community bonds that defined life in the area.
