Wondering where children discover their potential? It might just be within the walls of Adachi Municipal Nakagawa Elementary School. This school is more than just a building. It is a place where young minds grow.

Adachi Municipal Nakagawa Elementary School started as a branch of Higashi Sumida Elementary School. This was in response to a growing number of children in the eastern part of Adachi Ward. The school officially opened on July 15 1958. Instruction began that September with 228 students and 17 staff members.

In those early days the school had just six classrooms in a two-story wooden building. Over time the school expanded. More classrooms were added as well as staff rooms and special classrooms. In 1962 Adachi Municipal Nakagawa Elementary School became independent. Toshio Nakano became the first principal. At that time the school had 696 students and 17 staff members.

The school’s PTA was formed shortly after. Its first chairman was Kyuhachiro Hinata. A ceremony was held to commemorate the school’s opening in May of 1962. The school also adopted its flag at that time. A 25-meter swimming pool was built in 1964. More construction followed in 1966 with six new classrooms.

Adachi Municipal Nakagawa Elementary School celebrated its fifth anniversary in 1966. They held a ceremony and unveiled the school song. Later principals included Hideo Sonobe and Juro Sekino. Changes to the school district occurred in 1971. Fifty-three students transferred to Nakagawa Kita Elementary School.

Through the years Adachi Municipal Nakagawa Elementary School continued to evolve. New facilities were added such as a ball fence and a small aviary. In 1982 the school celebrated its 20th anniversary. A capsule launching ceremony was held.

The school also focused on creating a positive learning environment. The school aims to stimulate children’s sensitivity. It wants to help them discover their true selves. The school hopes to help children find joy in learning.

Today Adachi Municipal Nakagawa Elementary School continues to educate children. The school strives to nurture children. It wants them to be considerate bright and healthy. The school wants to create children. They should love themselves and their friends. Adachi Municipal Nakagawa Elementary School works with families to help each child reach their full potential.
