The gentle Caribbean breeze whispers secrets through the stained glass windows. Our Lady of Perpetual Help stands serenely on Roman Hill. Its pink walls bathed in sunlight.

Our Lady of Perpetual Help isn’t just a church. It’s a cornerstone of the Tyrell’s community. Built in 1932 it initially served as an outstation of St Joseph’s Parish. It wasn’t until 1958 that it gained its independence. Becoming its own thriving parish.

Imagine the dedication of Father Thys. The first parish priest. He tirelessly worked to establish a primary school in 1959. This was a remarkable achievement. Funded generously by the Mill Reef Club. The school provided free schooling and lunch. Sadly this vital support ended under Father Eelen’s tenure. Leading to the school’s closure.

Father Eelen. A man of faith. Yet perhaps less energetic than his predecessor. He faithfully visited his parishioners. Often traveling by foot or bicycle. He oversaw the construction of the beautiful Good Shepherd Chapel in Sea View Farm. A testament to his enduring commitment.

The history of Our Lady of Perpetual Help is not without its challenges. Periods of uncertainty followed the departures of key figures. These times tested the faith of the congregation. However the church persevered. It continues to serve as a beacon of hope and spiritual guidance.

Today Our Lady of Perpetual Help stands strong. A vibrant place of worship. Filled with the warmth of community and faith. It hosts Sunday masses at 10:30 am. Weekly services are also held on Wednesdays and Saturdays. A place where history and faith intertwine.

The church endures. A testament to the enduring spirit of the people of Tyrell’s. And the unwavering devotion to Our Lady of Perpetual Help. May its legacy continue to inspire generations to come.
