Nestled between Spořilov, Chodov, Záběhlice, and Michle, Dolní Roztyly whispers tales of a bygone era. Dolní Roztyly, once a vibrant settlement, now lives on in the names of places like Roztylské náměstí and Roztylské sady. Imagine Prague in the 12th century. Dolní Roztyly, along with its sister settlement Horní Roztyly, thrived under the ownership of the Vyšehrad Chapter. The 14th century brought a change of hands, with ownership transferring between Prague residents and outsiders. The Thirty Years’ War left its mark, with the estate plundered and eventually sold to the Jesuits in 1623. Dolní Roztyly changed hands again in 1786, acquired by Jakub Nagel z Königshofenu after the Jesuit order dissolved. In 1813, Dolní Roztyly became part of the Záběhlice estate. Children from the settlement attended school in Hostivař until 1891, when they began attending school in Záběhlice. Dolní Roztyly’s fate was sealed in 1922 when it became part of Prague’s greater urban sprawl. The area saw significant development, including the construction of Spořilov. Dolní Roztyly’s physical presence gradually disappeared, with only a few structures remaining. Today, the Evangelical church and rectory on Žilinská Street stand as the last vestiges of this vanished community. They serve as a poignant reminder of a time when Dolní Roztyly was more than just a name on a map. These surviving structures also offer a glimpse into the life of the community just a decade before its disappearance. Dolní Roztyly, once a bustling hub, ultimately met its end around 1970. Today, the area is occupied by Spořilov I and the South Junction.
