Amidst the dynamic cityscape of Shenzhen, the Science Centre East Block rises as a testament to innovation. Zaha Hadid Architects designed this iconic structure. The Science Centre East Block is located in Guangming Science City. It’s a key part of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Science Technology Innovation Corridor. The museum aims to be a landmark institution. The Science Centre East Block’s design promotes “maximum adaptability”. Its U-shaped plan embraces educational facilities and public spaces. These spaces center around an atrium courtyard. The building covers over 125,000 square meters. The Science Centre East Block connects the city and Guangming Park. Its form incorporates “solidity and dynamic curvilinear geometries.” These draw inspiration from the urban routes to the east. The building’s unique envelope reflects the interior program. It also links the museum atrium to the adjacent public park. To the west, the structure extends towards the natural landscapes of Guangming Park. Terraces frame a glazed wall, leading to the central courtyard atrium. The Science Centre East Block aspires to be a sustainable model for the region. The design emphasizes thermal performance, energy efficiency, natural lighting, wind levels, and air quality. The completion of the Science Centre East Block was initially slated for late 2023. However, the actual completion date may differ.
