High above Uhlbach the Rastplatz Kapf awaits. A haven for weary travelers it offers breathtaking views. This isn’t just any resting place. The Rastplatz Kapf boasts a rich history. It was created during the vineyard restructuring of the 1960s and 70s. The Verschönerungsverein Stuttgart e V a local beautification society played a key role. They invested 25000 DM to transform this spot. Following suggestions from the then-garden office they created a beautiful resting area.

The Kapf itself is a spur of the Götzberg mountain. From its 422m elevation you enjoy panoramic views. Look southwest across Uhlbach’s valley. The Neckar valley Wangen Hill and parts of Stuttgart’s basin spread before you. Notice the benches perfect for a rest. A pergola once stood here but was sadly closed due to disrepair in 2016.

Reaching the Rastplatz Kapf is an adventure. Climbing from Uhlbach is strenuous. There are no direct paths requiring considerable detours. A more scenic route begins in Rotenberg. A walk through the vineyards leads to the Götzberg and the Kapf viewpoint. The journey from Rotenberg is about 19 kilometers. You’ll climb approximately 50 meters in elevation. The views however are worth the effort.

More than just a scenic overlook the Rastplatz Kapf tells a story. It’s a testament to community effort. It’s a window to Stuttgart’s history. The stone walls recall the vineyard landscape before the restructuring. A restored dry stone wall section is a unique feature. It provides a habitat for heat-loving plants and animals. So take a seat relax and absorb the beauty. Let the story of the Rastplatz Kapf linger in your memories. It’s a reminder that even simple places can hold profound history.
