Before us stands the Wyższe Prawosławne Seminarium Duchowne, a beacon of Orthodox faith in Warsaw. It has a long and fascinating history, dating back to the time of the Nazi occupation, when seminaries were established in both Warsaw and Chełm. In 1951, the present-day seminary was founded by Metropolitan Tymoteusz, originally as a private secondary school. Back then, it was known as the Orthodox Theological High School. Throughout the years, this institution witnessed several transformations. The institution was first known as the Orthodox Theological High School then as the Orthodox Theological Seminary. During the 1950s and 60s, the seminary expanded and evolved, eventually becoming a public institution. It also functioned for a time as an annex of the General Secondary School for Working People. In 1992, a significant restructuring took place. The length of studies was reduced to three years, effectively transforming the seminary into a post-secondary school. The Wyższe Prawosławne Seminarium Duchowne attained its current status as a higher vocational school in 1998, gaining the authority to award bachelor’s degrees in Orthodox theology. The building we see today, with its imposing structure and serene ambiance, also houses the Church of the Introduction into the Holy Temple of the Most Holy Theotokos, a place of worship and spiritual nourishment. It is a place where students and believers gather daily, seeking knowledge and communion.
