Can you hear the gentle lapping of the Fraser River against the shore? That’s the sound of McDonald Beach Park welcoming you. McDonald Beach Park isn’t just a park. It’s a 26.1-acre stretch of waterfront wonder, nestled at the north end of Sea Island. Here, the Fraser River unveils its bustling personality, showcasing working boats and the rhythmic movement of log booms. McDonald Beach Park offers a front-row seat to this watery spectacle. Look across the river, and you’ll see the cityscape of South Vancouver. The park itself boasts long stretches of sandy beach, perfect for a leisurely stroll. Fancy a picnic? There are designated picnic areas with tables, just waiting for you to unpack your basket. And for aviation enthusiasts, McDonald Beach Park provides an excellent vantage point for plane spotting as aircraft glide to and from the nearby airport. Now, a word of caution. While the Fraser River might beckon you for a refreshing dip, swimming here is strongly discouraged. The river’s current is deceptively strong and can be dangerous. Remember, there are no lifeguards on duty. For those arriving by boat, McDonald Beach Park has a dedicated boat launch with two ramps, conveniently located on the north bank. Public washrooms are available in the caretaker’s building adjacent to the launch. A small fee applies to use the boat ramp, payable at the on-site meter or through an annual permit. Dog lovers, rejoice! McDonald Beach Park features a designated off-leash area where your furry friends can frolic freely. However, please remember to keep your dogs under control, clean up after them, and ensure they are licensed. Aggressive behavior is not tolerated, and dogs displaying such tendencies must be leashed immediately. McDonald Beach Park is a place where nature’s beauty and urban life converge. Enjoy the views, breathe in the fresh air, and let the stories of the Fraser River wash over you. Just remember to respect the river’s power and keep safety in mind.
