Gazing at Sven-Harrys konstmuseum, its golden facade shimmers. It’s more than just a museum. It’s a testament to one man’s vision, a vibrant hub where art, architecture, and life intertwine. Sven-Harrys konstmuseum opened its doors in 2011. It was the brainchild of Sven-Harry Karlsson, a builder with a passion for art. He envisioned a space where his collection could be shared with everyone. The striking brass facade, designed by Gert Wingårdh and Anna Höglund, stands as a beacon in Stockholm’s Vasaparken. Sven-Harrys konstmuseum isn’t just about the art within its walls. The building itself is a work of art, housing apartments, commercial spaces, and a restaurant. It’s a living, breathing entity, constantly evolving through exhibitions, collaborations, and discussions. Inside Sven-Harrys konstmuseum, a 400-square-meter art gallery unfolds across three halls. Two grace the entrance level, while another resides on the fourth floor. A media room on the lower ground floor hosts films connected to current exhibitions. The museum regularly organizes screenings and events. But the true gem of Sven-Harrys konstmuseum lies on its roof: a replica of Sven-Harry’s former home, the 18th-century manor Ekholmsnäs. This unique setting showcases one of Sweden’s largest private collections of Nordic art. Works by Carl Fredrik Hill, Ernst Josephson, August Strindberg, and Helene Schjerfbeck adorn the walls, complemented by furniture from Gio Ponti and Georg Haupt, and carpets by Märta Måås-Fjetterström. The art, furniture, and the room itself create a unified experience. As Sven-Harry himself said, “It all goes together… it’s a totality, and that is how it should be shown.” Sven-Harrys konstmuseum is a space where art comes alive, where history whispers from every corner, and where the vision of one man continues to inspire.
