It’s a living testament to faith, growth, and community. Its story begins in the 1950s as an offshoot of East Kings Road Baptist Church in North Vancouver. The first sanctuary rose on this very spot in 1963, a beacon of faith in the growing Westlynn neighborhood. Westlynn Baptist Church continued to evolve, reflecting the changing needs of its community. The 1980s saw the construction of the current sanctuary, complete with an expanded kitchen, dedicated Sunday school rooms, a prayer room, and more office space. This expansion was a testament to the church’s forward-thinking vision, anticipating future growth and community impact. In 2017, Westlynn Baptist Church embarked on a search for a new lead pastor, a search that would lead to a pivotal moment in its history. 2018 marked a significant turning point with the merger of Westlynn Baptist Church and ACTS 242 Church. ACTS 242, a young church plant seeking a permanent home, found kindred spirits at Westlynn. After six months of shared services, meals, and prayerful consideration, the two congregations united under the leadership of Pastor Sam Chua. Westlynn Baptist Church’s commitment to spiritual growth extends beyond Sunday services. They offer a range of programs. These include classes for those curious about Christianity, discipleship groups for deeper learning, dedicated ministries for Russian and Farsi speakers, and weekly English classes for immigrants and refugees. Westlynn Baptist Church is deeply woven into the fabric of the local community. Its biweekly food program, run by dedicated volunteers, provides vital support to low-income individuals and seniors. The church also extends its ministry to the Lynn Valley Care Center, holding monthly worship services for the residents. For the younger generation, Westlynn Baptist Church offers a vibrant youth group and young adult group. They meet on Friday evenings for Bible study, spiritual growth, and fun outings. A chess club for elementary and high school students meets several times a month. And for over 20 years, Westlynn Baptist Church has hosted an annual summer Sports Camp for children. Westlynn Baptist Church stands as a testament to the power of faith, community, and service. From its humble beginnings to its present-day vibrancy, it has consistently sought to glorify God and serve its community.
