Perched atop a hill, Tano Point offers views that stretch across Santa Fe. It is a magical place anyway. But have you heard the story of how one woman transformed a property here into a peaceful oasis?
In 2012, a 6.5-acre property went up for sale. Karen Rogers Still knew she had to have it. This property is now known as Tano Point Estate. Karen and her husband, Marc, wanted a place for their family to enjoy.
The Tano Point Estate is now on the market for $15 million. It could be a family compound or a corporate retreat. The property sits on over 6 acres and has 360-degree views. It is truly postcard-worthy.
The main residence at Tano Point is 12,329 square feet. John Gaw Meem originally designed it. He is considered New Mexico’s greatest 20th-century architect. His name is synonymous with Santa Fe style.
A white stucco front gate leads to a cobblestone driveway. An entry house welcomes you. There are also two guest houses, a chapel, and a dining pavilion. Gazebos, a potting shed, two private wells, a swimming pool, and a cabana dot the grounds of Tano Point.
Karen Rogers Still faced challenges during remodeling. Taking old houses and remodeling them is much more difficult. You have layers to peel back every time you open a wall.
Still found walls that were not structurally sound. They had to start over. The finished product is one of the most fabulous houses in Santa Fe. The house is laid out on two separate planes. One building went one way and another building went the other way. Trying to visually square up this house during construction was quite challenging.
The main house at Tano Point has air conditioning and radiant floor heating. Reclaimed wooden beams from a barn in Pennsylvania add to the dining room ceiling. The design of that ceiling was a master craftsmanship project.
Views of the Colorado mountains and Badlands add an extra wow factor. People who have lived in Santa Fe their entire lives have never seen views like this. They extend in every direction from Tano Point.
After buying the property, the couple married in the chapel. The previous owner had built it for his daughter’s wedding. Now, it has been turned into a fun man cave, a sports bar for watching football.
Still wanted to have her hands on everything. It was quite a process finding the right people. They were like old family for four years while the construction was going on.
The couple wanted to build it and they will come. Tano Point boasts a bocce court, swimming pool, and a huge garden. There are chickens and, of course, the chapel with a pool table. You can watch football games or movies. This house is ideally suited for a large family. There are plenty of places for people to stay or hang out in the summertime.
The garden at Tano Point is a place to kick back and enjoy the great outdoors. It has lush greenery, a potting shed, and a dining pavilion with a grill. They have a long table in the middle of the garden. In the summer, they often have dinners there. They serve out of the dining pavilion. There can be 20 people at the long table with string lights above. It feels like you are in the middle of the Italian countryside. They harvest tons of food out of the garden. They have even had wedding receptions there.
The sunsets at Tano Point are stunning. When you live in a house like this, you sometimes take the surroundings for granted. But once in a while, the sunsets will blow your mind. They are so intense. It’s like nothing you would see anywhere else.
Tano Point stands as a testament to vision and perseverance. It shows how a space can be transformed into something truly magical. It is not just a property but a place where memories are made, and the beauty of Santa Fe is celebrated.
