Created in 1941, the Base Aérea de São Paulo initially operated from Campo de Marte Airport. In 1945, it moved to its current location. This was formerly known as Cumbica Farm.
For many years, the 4th Squadron of Air Transportation called the Base Aérea de São Paulo home. It was known as the Carajá Squadron. They flew C-95 and C-95A Bandeirante aircraft. These planes performed important missions. These included humanitarian aid, rescue, and medical evacuations. They also provided logistical support. The Carajá Squadron supported the Brazilian Army and Navy. They even assisted the Federal Police.
In January 2018, the Carajá Squadron was deactivated. Its aircraft and personnel moved to Santa Cruz Air Force Base. But the Base Aérea de São Paulo continues its service.
