Despite these challenges National Harbor flourished.
The Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center opened in 2008. This massive hotel is the largest between New Jersey and Florida. It’s also the biggest in the Washington area. It marked a significant step in National Harbor’s development. The project’s cost? A staggering $4 billion. Walt Disney Company had plans for a new resort hotel. They eventually abandoned the project in 2011. Other attractions followed. Tanger Outlets opened in 2013. The Capital Wheel a stunning Ferris wheel debuted in 2014. In 2016 MGM National Harbor opened its doors. This integrated resort includes a casino a 300-room hotel and various shops.
National Harbor continues to evolve. In 2023 Titanic: The Exhibition opened. It showcases fascinating Titanic artifacts. Today National Harbor attracts millions of visitors annually. It offers a diverse range of experiences. From its convention center and numerous hotels to its restaurants shops and entertainment venues. There’s even a waterfront walkway perfect for a leisurely stroll. The Capital Wheel provides breathtaking panoramic views. You can even see the Washington Monument and the National Cathedral from the top. A five-piece cast iron sculpture adds a touch of artistic flair. Originally near the Jefferson Memorial it found a new home at National Harbor in 2008.
