Did you know the Twelve Apostles mountain range isn’t actually made up of twelve peaks? It’s home to eighteen impressive peaks. Right here before you stands this magnificent range forming the backdrop of Table Mountain overlooking Camps Bay. The Twelve Apostles stretch from Kloof Nek almost to Hout Bay offering breathtaking views.

This stunning natural landmark holds a fascinating history. Before 1795 when the Cape was under Dutch rule the peaks had different names. They were known as Kasteelbergen Castle Mountains or Gevelbergen Gable Mountains. Only two peaks were later named after apostles Judas Peak and St Paul. St Paul was considered the most impressive.

Victoria Road hugs the Twelve Apostles. It offers incredible views of the Atlantic Ocean and the mountains themselves. Drive along this road especially around sunset to witness the Cape Town sunset disappear into the ocean. A truly unforgettable experience.

Imagine the wind whispering through the ravines and gorges. Feel the spray of the Atlantic Ocean on your face. Each peak has a unique name. Some names like Kasteels Buttress and Postern Buttress reflect their resemblance to castles. The Postern Buttress is named after the back entrance of a castle.

The Twelve Apostles are more than just a scenic backdrop. They are a testament to the rich history and the unique beauty of Cape Town. They offer a glimpse into the past. They provide stunning views and serve as a reminder of the natural wonders of South Africa. So take a moment to truly appreciate the majestic beauty of the Twelve Apostles. Enjoy this iconic landmark of Cape Town.
