Later the school moved to a location on the hill. This grand building boasted four large rooms and an assembly room. A bell tower topped the school. Its robust bell could be heard for miles. Principal William Day Smith led the school for 30 years from 1907 to 1937. Under his guidance Scottsville High School became the first Virginia high school accredited by the University of Virginia and the State Department of Education. He was also a beloved teacher. He even wrote the lyrics to “The Scottsville School Song”.
