Journey back to 1913 when Gymnázium J. S. Machara first opened its doors. It was initially named Reálné gymnázium arcivévody Karla Františka Josefa. Can you imagine the excitement of those first 49 students?

Gymnázium J. S. Machara has a rich history. In 1914, during World War I, the school building became a military hospital. The students and staff had to move out temporarily.

After the war, the Gymnázium J. S. Machara found its permanent home in Královická Street in 1927. This is where it stands today. The building’s architecture is eclectic and impressive.

In 1998, a significant event occurred. The urn of Josef Svatopluk Machar was moved to the school. It was placed on the first floor with a new memorial plaque. Since then, the school has carried his name. Josef Svatopluk Machar attended three grades of the local school in Brandýs nad Labem.

The Gymnázium J. S. Machara offers both eight-year and four-year study programs. It prepares students for higher education. The school has a long tradition of academic excellence.

The school employs between 50 and 99 people. They are dedicated teachers and staff. They strive to provide the best possible education for their students.

The Gymnázium J. S. Machara participates in various activities. For example, students go on ski trips. They also participate in language competitions. These activities enrich the student experience.

The Gymnázium J. S. Machara continues to evolve. From September 2025, a new technical lyceum focused on computer science will open. It will provide excellent preparation in mathematics, physics and computer science. It will also offer theoretical and practical foundations in electrotechnics, robotics, and mechatronics.

The current director of Gymnázium J. S. Machara is PhDr. Ing. Miroslava Zachariášová since 2019. She leads the school with passion and vision. The Gymnázium J. S. Machara remains an important educational institution in Brandýs nad Labem-Stará Boleslav. It prepares students for successful futures.
