What if I told you that this chemistry building might also be a tomb? Welcome to the Chong Yuet Ming Chemistry Building. It’s more than just a place of science. This building has some eerie stories to tell.
The Chong Yuet Ming Chemistry Building is part of the University of Hong Kong. To get here by MTR, take the Island line to HKU station. Use exit A2. Then just follow University Street to the Chong Yuet Ming Physics Building. From there it is not far.
The story starts with Li Ka-Shing. He is a Hong Kong businessman and billionaire. He made a large donation to HKU. With it, an amenities center was built. It was named in honor of his late wife Chong Yuet Ming.
Now, here’s where it gets interesting. Some say the Chong Yuet Ming Chemistry Building is haunted. Specifically, the third-floor girls’ toilet. It is rumored that the building was designed to keep Chong Yuet Ming’s spirit at rest.
Let’s talk about the bathroom door. It is said to have a woman’s symbol. But it also has large shoulder pads. This was a staple of Chong Yuet Ming’s wardrobe. No other bathrooms in the building have this design.
Inside, three water pipes run along the ceiling. These supposedly symbolize the three incense sticks used to show respects to the dead.
The door handle is also unusually high. Too high for a wheelchair user to reach. Plus, there are steps leading up to the bathroom. This would make it impossible for a ghost in a wheelchair to leave. It is said these features are not found anywhere else in the building.
From certain angles, the Chong Yuet Ming Chemistry Building looks like a tomb. Sightings of a ghost matching Chong Yuet Ming’s description have been reported.
Whether these are coincidences, who knows? But the Chong Yuet Ming Chemistry Building definitely has some spooky stories. It mixes science with a touch of the supernatural. As you leave, consider the stories within these walls. Is it just a chemistry building or something more?
