In 1934 a group of compassionate women had a dream. They wanted to create a summer camp for orphaned and poor children. This is the story of Camp Bennett. Located in Brookeville Maryland Camp Bennett was born from their vision. They raised $11000 through concerts. Famed music leader Homer Rodeheaver helped. He was known for his work with evangelist Billy Sunday. The women purchased a farm. They dedicated it to Christian service.
Camp Bennett was named to honor John and Jean Bennett. They were the Central Union Mission’s first long-term superintendent and his wife. The camp’s early years were multifaceted.
