The Tamagawa Tax Office is part of the National Tax Agency. The National Tax Agency is Japan’s official tax collecting agency. It was formed on June 1, 1949. Before that the Tax Bureau of the Ministry of Finance handled taxes. After World War II tax administration wasn’t working well. The Tax Bureau had too many tasks. So the National Tax Agency was created.
The National Tax Agency has a clear mission. It helps taxpayers fulfill their tax duties smoothly and correctly. The Tamagawa Tax Office helps achieve this mission. We focus on transparency and efficiency.
The Tamagawa Tax Office is located in Setagaya-ku Tokyo. Our address is 2-1-7 Tamagawa Setagaya-ku. You can reach us easily. The Futakotamagawa Station is a 5-minute walk away. Both the Tokyu Den-en-toshi Line and Tokyu Oimachi Line serve this station.
Our office is open Monday to Friday. We are open from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Please note we are closed on weekends holidays and from December 29 to January 3.
Paying taxes doesn’t have to be a chore. Cashless payment options are available. These are very convenient. You don’t need to visit the Tamagawa Tax Office to pay. If you do pay in person please come between 9 am and 4 pm.
Starting April 14 2025 fees for tax payments must be handled between 9 am and 3 pm. This applies to payments and issuance of tax payment certificates.
From January 2025 the Tamagawa Tax Office will no longer stamp receipts. This change affects copies of tax returns and other documents.

For face-to-face consultations appointments are required. Contact the Tamagawa Tax Office to schedule one. We can assist with tax return preparation payment advice and tax certificate issuance. We also provide information on tax seminars and facilities. This includes opening hours and parking.
